06:37 pm Sometimes I really dislike working. Sure it gives me somethiing to do, but sometimes, like last night, it is horrible. At Disney we just started a program called Disney's Magical Express. We provide transportation for both the guest and their luggage from the airport and in many cases to as well. It started on the 5ht and was horrible. The luggage is brought seperately from the guests since it is taken directly from the plane which causes delays. In many cases up to ten hours before the luggage got to the resorts. The system was not tracking properly at the airport so much of it had to be hand-written. Yesterday we had one guest who had to wai two hours beofre the bus even dropped them off at the Polynesian.Their luggage arrived four hours later. I went on a shopping run for them and gave out two-hundred dollars worth of clothes. But it was supposed to be just a quick run that took over thirty minutes. Alll of the ink-tag removers were locked. Had to get a merchandise manager to come in and unlock one. Our duty manager spent over five-hundreed on another guest who was pissed about the whole thing. They had had eight hours before their luggage arrived. The phones never stopped ringing from people yelling at us becuase their luggage had not arrived yet. The truck bringing in the luggage arrived three hours after we were promised was the latest it would arrive. It was so busy I never got to even eat on my shift. Neither of us could even go to the bathroom. DME is horrible right now. And to day I get to do Ops, the person having to answer the phones and telling guests that , no, their luggage is not here. I hope I have a good cashier who will help out. Going out with a friend now before my shift. Must prepare myself for the horribleness that is to come tonight. 07:55 pm - P.O.P. My parents are members of a prayer group called People of Praise. Started orignially in South Bend, IN, where I moved to Orlando from, they also ran the high school I went to, Trinity School at Greenlawn. Last week, my parents had called to tell me that some of there friends from the POP were coming down and would look me up. These were also people I had met and talked to many times before. We are not friends but definitely acquantainces. Now It has been a week and a half and I never heard from them. They are back in South Bend now. Why did I not hear from them? Probably because they are from the POP. For a group that I spent many years with, I never hear from them anymore. Most of them stopped after I maved an email a couple of years ago in which I called myself a shay'a'chern. Too many of them got the reference and I got blasted by them over it. I know I was the subject of the POP rumor mill for some time becuase of it and now friends of my parents won't even give me a call when they are down. I know I should ignore it but it annoys the hell out of me. Why I dislike so many christians. And now when I go to work I need to talk to a friend about the same subject. By all the gods, I hope I am misreading the implications of their last message. I am running low on friends. Current Mood: distressed Current Music: Slaughter - Burnin' Bridges

I thought I would be able to post from work with all the down-time we have on graveyard, but people are always coming by to chat since they are bored as well. I am now trained at base for graveyard which is an additioanl premium in addition to the graveyard premium. I am beginning to make enough money to live on. 12:26 am - Very long post on fights yuck, a long time between posts. Not entirely my fault. Remember the iPod. Well I was having some troubles with it and iTunes so I decided to reformat Ouoroboros, like an idiot, right before we got busy. A lot has happened since my last post so I am going to cut it so I can ramble at length. This is more to let people know I am still here. Oh yes and have a phone again. Quick run down on events, we won the bucket picks fight, got in fights with management, lost a CP, got in fights with management, had a friend get terminated from Disney, got in fights with management, once again in fight with fundie cast member, got in fights involving union. Though that fundie one is still fun. ( more details... ) With all the fighting I have been doing these past few weeks maybe I should accept the Shop Steward position. :D Anyways that is enough. I am going to bed now so I can get up in the morning and go play in the parks with friends. including the one who got Termed. Maybe this time they will get me on Rock'n Roller Coaster. 05:30 pm - Tax Refund Yeah!! I got my refund today. First off I paid some bills, then went shopping. Picked up a new Hard Disk which brings my total disk space up to 165 GB. Three hard disks, 30 GB, 40 GB, the new 80 GB, and a 15 GB removable. Oh yes the removable. I saw it while picking up the 80 GB and couldn't resist. A 15 GB iPod marked to half price since it was display. How could I pass that up. It is nice :D Yes I am a geek. I get money and buy electronic tools. Well the hard disk was becoming a necessity, though. Now that got a DV camera I have run out of space from my different projects, Especially the Westies, that takes up 25 GB by itself and since I still occasionally get requests for burns of it I don't want to remove it yet. Just for fun let me list my drives ( here... ) And the schedule went into arbitration yesterday. Which means hopefully we can go back to a regular schedule rather than this mess we are on now. All in all I am very happy today. Though I have to go to work tomorrow, we are very busy which is fun. Tease the kiddies. *WHEE* Current Mood: happy Current Music: Music from the iPod

09:05 pm - Taxes Well I took my tax info down to Jackson Hewitt today. Why them and not H&R? Well, JH had a special, 20% off with a valid bus pass. I didn't think to see how much more expensive they would be them H&R but I should have. The fee was an eighth of my refund, and I didn't even use the bus pass discount since there was a better one since my taxes were on the EZ form. They did give me the option of having the cost of preparing the return out of my refund but the fee would have almost doubled. Next year, I shall be doing my own taxes again. I didn't this year because I had the complication of needing to pay taxes in two states, plus taxes on my unemployment. Which really gets me annoyed. Let's see here, I pay taxes so that in the event that I am unable to find work I can get enough money to get by for a little while. Then when they cut me the check for the money that I basically put into their trust just in case, they tax me again on it. How many times can my dollar be taxed? Gotta love FUI. Oh well I should get my money back by the end of this month.
On a related note, go read Manna. I can just see the scenario of Manna occuring, maybe not the Australia project but definitely Manna itself as technology improves. We already have the beginnings of it here at Disney. When we open or close, ther is a checklist we must go through that details every step of the process. For example: 1)When Lights on SpaceShip Earth turn off, close ropes in front of the Standby, FastPass, and Wheelchair Access doors 2)Close the Standby, Fastpass, and Wheelchair doors 3)Remove the dirty goggles from the table and carry them into the glasses storage room 4)Stack the dirty goggles with any dirty goggles from earlier in the day. We are supposed to inital each line as we finish it. All we need is a headset and there you go. Walt Disney Corp would jump at the chance for something like Manna, as we have gone from focusing on courtesy into efficency, moving the guests through, and into the shops, as quickly as possible. What is really scary for me is that is what a lot of people want. I try to keep theming but it is hard. Telling guests that Journey into Imagination with Figment is the tour of five of the Imagination Institute's sensory labs, and that we provide them with the use of a tram for the tour and them having them immediately turn around and say, "I don't care about that. Is it a kiddie ride or not." No, we don't get this just from teens, but from almost every age group, though it is rare for those guests who have had more experience on this plane of existence...(Sorry a joke from work about being PC). Oh yes and the kids are just cute when they say it. Oops, off topic again. Back to Manna. The terrafoam housing I can easily see happening, if we got the type of robotic laborers he describes. Once we have gotten to that point the rich wouldn't need human laborers, except for a few programmers and roboticists on hand to troubleshoot. It is even humanitarian. After all now the unemployed have a roof over their head and food in their belly, what more do they need? The Australia project I can see also being created, again in his world of robotic labor, but how long it would last? I don't know. Give people that kind of freedom and there are always a few who will turn destructive. A vandal will take it upon himself to test the limits of the System and one of them will find a weakness. The battle between weapons and armor is always won by the weapon. You will always have both in society the ones who work to better it and those who seek to tear it down. And in the AusProj 75 years later who will be motivated enough to stop them? Most will be Vites, with quite a few Pees like Lewis who went back to the simple life, and only a few who really are motivated to innovate. That is the way people are. When given a choice between working or sitting around all day, knowing you will still be able to later do whatever you want to, the vast majority will choose to sit down. People are just lazy. It would be nice but could it become a reality? We can always dream.

06:38 pm - Silly guests I was in Darkroom, the ride unload position, yesterday when a group of young teens got off. One of them turns to his friends and yells, "My god, that was stupid!" He then turns around and *WHAM* walks into the wall between the two open doors. Later, at Hista, we had a guest who exited with their goggles. The Exit person asked for them back and the guest runs back to put them in the bin. Only the go past the bins again and back into the theater, where they inform the Theater person that they forgot to turn them in. Theater tells them again to put the goggles in the silver bins in between the exit doors. So the guest walks back out, again past the bins, and asks Exit if the trash can is where they were supposed to put the goggles. Next show, this scene was repeated, except the guest got it right after leaving the theater.
I recently downloaded Mozilla Firefox. I only have been using it for a few days but it has improved things considerably just by adding a simple little thing. It gives you the option of opening a link in a tab in addition to a new or the same window. What is really nice is how it uses the tabs with bookmarks. You can open all the bookmarks in a folder at once in separate tabs. So I rearranged my bookmarks and life is easier and quicker. At the time FireFox is only Ver. 0.8 but I have not found any major problems so far. It is slightly less forgiving to poor web page design but nothing horrible. I still use IE for some things but am switching over. Also the ad blocking is very nice. And it is not Microsoft. :D Current Mood: cheerful Current Music: Cartoons - DOO DAH

11:15 pm - Disney Communication Well first day of new horrible schedule. Got up really early this morning, 5:45 ugh, Since some friends and I decided we were going to Audition for character at the Star Wars Weekend. Would have been great. I was hoping to get a Stormtrooper role. I could parade around in my armor and it would be fun. Well we get there about 30 minutes before sign in start to have a good spot and get out early and get in the short line. Then sign in starts from the back of the line we had formed. Meh. We still near the front since it was a short line, thought it got a lot longer. Then an hour and a half later, we go for the Audition. First thing they tell us is, sorry, but this audition is for Face only not Fur. We go into a room in a group of ten and stand in a line. They then pull aside one person and tell the rest of us we can go. Questioning a CM working there, we find out that Stormies and such are considered Fur characters, which are being chosen only from current Fur characters. So we wasted our time since only one of the four of us had even a passing resemblance to a SW character. Oh well, There is another Audition for puppeteers later this month. I will try for that. Speaking of puppeteering, I scared a kid with Figment today. He was walking along talking to the rest of his party when one pointed out Figment to one of the little ones in the party. He turns to look as well and them jumps in fright because Figgie smiled. He thought it was just a stuffed toy. :D Figgie is so cute. As soon as I get money I must get a puppet of him for myself. Getting to meet some more of the CPs from our area. They are being trained for all three attractions and most of them are cute. ;) Had a very nice conversation tonight with one about the merits of James Joyce, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. 11:57 pm - gay marriage Just a reminder I do have anonymous commenting allowed here so if you do wish to hear more from me on a subject I mention here please post a comment saying so. Not that I don't like getting emails but part of the purpose of this is to encourage discussion among those who read my journal. Besides LJ is currently free. You can set up your own. Now as to what prompted that message I have received a few emails asking why I didn't comment on the gay marriages. As I mentioned, my thoughts on the issue are rather confused. I will try to lay them out here. Perhaps either my typing them out or your comments will help clarify the issue for myself. And it may help you the reader. ( long life's story... ) His showing me that it was not necessarily sinful to be gay is quite recent though, just two years ago, so I often find myself thinking as I used to. Intellectually, I see nothing wrong with gay marriages in today's society, but my former habits of thought disagree. I have gone over the specific verses to a fare-thee-well with PH and others. While it helped with some, it has not with all. Sodom and Gomorrah? As much about the breaking of the guest rights as about gays, look at Ezekiel. Leviticus? the book that says that engaging in homosexual activities is an abomination, yet bestiality is simply confusing. I now look at that verse and see not so much a condemnation of being gay in and of itself, so much as a people trying to build a nation which can stand up to their neighbors. And homosexual activities do not lead to children who can later take up arms. Also look at how many other of the rules have fallen by the wayside of history as no longer necessary for survival, such as the law about not eating pork. Romans? Now that one is different. It does explicitly state that homosexual behavior is wrong and unnatural. It is also much more current than the others. Though I have trouble accepting it at as well. First, it is written by Paul, stating his views of the teachings of Christ. I know that is Ad Hominem, but still they are called Christians, not Paulians, and Christ himself is never recorded as saying anything about gays. Except of course Love One Another. Second, it says that "God also gave them up to uncleanness", yet "have pleasure in them that do them" (Romans 1:24,1:32). It seems almost to say that while they used their free will to choose to worship God as an idol, He removed their ability to choose right, for he gave them up. Yet if they revel in it they must still be able to know it is wrong. So if God gave them up, how did they choose without something to compare it too. How can you know what is Right if you know not of Wrong. Also, there is plenty of homosexual behavior in nature, so is it really unnatural? Marriage, also, is not a simple contract between two people to always be there and love and support each other, but also has the purpose of bringing children into the world, and gay marriages cannot do that. Sure they can adopt and care for kids who otherwise would not have a home, but that is not the same thing. So perhaps it should gay marriages should be more of a civil contract rather than a marriage. Yet, saying that seems to deny the loving aspect which so many of these couples clearly have, reducing it to merely a business transaction. Though that is the way our society seems to be going even with straight couples. Even though I have a lot of confusion about the issue, watching them I am glad that they are finally being allowed to marry the one they love.
Now you see why I avoided it before. I end up writing a mini essay that says nothing really. But then again I am just a silly, confused, overeducated Tod :D Current Mood: confused Current Music: Five Iron Frenzy - These Are Not My Pants

11:52 pm - New schedule Okay I talked to the scheduler today and it is not his fault completely. Yes I have been scheduled for shifts that I can not return home from due to my transportation of the city buses but there is nothing he can do about it. These late shifts are actually the earliest shifts in my bucket with more than 6 hours in them. The problem is that the new software creates the shifts and not the scheduler. And the scheduler has now been forbidden from modifying the created shifts since they cover the available hours and staffing better than something he could create. It used to be that he could, for example, take my 13:30 -22:00 shift and change it to 13:00-21:30 and then extend a CP to fill in the last half-hour. No longer as doing that would mean that from 13:00-13:30 we would have an extra Cast Member. It was not with how the shifts were given out as we first thought. This had better be stopped by the union. Not a single full time CM got the full 40 hours, regardless of seniority. We will know on Friday. As to my friend who wanted money, well I managed to divert him towards another possible source but don't know the results. Haven't seen either him or his roomie past few days. 08:48 am - New Schedules Could our scheduler have messed up anymore? The way the program is supposed to work is easy. Start with the high seniority cast members, give them the shifts they asked for and the lower ones get the closest available. Now I am not high seniority overall but for the PM buckets I am top of the list. Everyone higher than myself chose morning shifts, so I should have gotten what I asked for or at least close. I ended up with short, late closing shifts, when I had asked for long, early closing shifts. I am surprised that he even got me within the same bucket. I go to have a long time with him today. He even scheduled me for shifts outside of my availability. They spent thousands of dollars on this software, yet I could and have written better. Must get ready now for work now. Will post results of my discussion. Current Mood: aggravated Current Music: Rammstein - Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen

11:41 pm - New scheduling Disney has decided to implement a new scheduling system in our area. Our old one gave us a set schedule every week. We had the same hours and days off. It was a little annoying for those of us with low seniority as we may not have gotten 40 hours but at least we knew our schedule. This new one puts us in Buckets as they are called. You can choose AM, MID, PM, or FLOAT. The days off are still set but everything else is up in the air. The only other thing you know is if you picked AM you get off at 6:00, Mid is between 10:00 and 8:00, PM starts at 12:00. What you work and how many hours is totally up in the air and will change weekly based on vacations and such. The union is fighting it because while it will aid in scheduling and maximizing hours, most cast members would prefer to have the set schedules even if they do not get as many hours. My problem with it is that with the buses I can only work after 8:00 and before 9:30 or 9:00 on Sunday. On Sunday the buses only run once an hour. I had my pick for it yesterday though I basically had my choice between a SUN, MON off PM shift or a THURS, FRI MID. I gambled on the PM as almost no one had yet picked PM so I have a good chance of starting at 12:00 and won't have to play the Sunday bus game. The union is having some major difficulties fighting it though. The CMs here are either apathetic or scared that the company will do something worse if we fight them too hard. I am going to stop now as I am rather disgusted with the other CMs reaction to the union.I will post more later as things heat up with the new contract negotiations. 10:51 pm - Where do you draw the line? Not much to post on recently. Most everything has been the same old stuff, even the guests are no worse than normal. I am not even going to say anything about the marriages in San Fransisco. Not that I don't have ideas about it, my thoughts just are so confused still I really am not sure exactly how I feel about it. Though I do disagree strongly with Bush about the possible Amendment. Even if such things need to be regulated against, it is the purpose of the states to decide what is acceptable within themselves. The purpose of the federal government is to rule on disputes between states or things that effect the country as a whole. It does not take rights away from people, rather it defends them against the local laws. The states are what decide local standards. If some places decide to not persecute a something such as gay marriages, that is the decision of the community not the congress. An example of what happens when the federal government tries to regulate Morality is Prohibition. And every one knows how well that worked. I thought that Bush was a conservative. You know, limit federal powers and increase the power of the states. Yet encouraging such an Amendment has the opposite effect. Yes many people have objections to gay marriage on religious grounds nor is it the most stable environment, in general, for a kid to be raised, but is it really threatening the safety or security of our country? I would say no. And if it is passed where does it stop? Who decides what is moral? Could there be a law passed against those who engage in fornication? I don't think so but for me it is not that far of a jump from saying that the only legally recognized relationships are between a man and a woman.
Now to the personal stuff. I have finally heard again from one of my friends down here. We used to do a lot of stuff together but then he ran into some financial difficulties. Disney cut his hours to almost nothing. I helped him out for a while, but eventually had to cut him off. I haven't seen him in almost a month due to my projects, but he called yesterday. Of course he needs money again. Only now it has become critical. If he does not get a few hundred for rentby Monday he will be forced to move home by his roommate. I feel really bad about it though. He wants me to borrow the money from one of those payday loan places, claiming that he will pay me back before it comes due. I said no to that, though I did spend the day with him trying to find some other way. I don't want him to leave but if he doesn't pay me back I will be unable to cover it with my rent and bills and I based on what he has done before I can't trust him to pay me back. Now he has a knew scheme that he will tell me tomorrow, which I think will be something on the line of hitting me up agian. Wish me strength if I am right. 06:53 pm Hey, I promised that I would get the page up sooner or later. Sorry for the delay folks but I was just being lazy. More content will be added later but this is it for now. Yes, I know the links are not there because I am still working on the page. This first one is more of a test than anything else and to let everyone know I am still alive after the difficulties I had with email.
Now to work information. We got a puppet to play with! A figment puppet of course. It is cute and cuddly and fun. He sits on our hand and interacts with the guests and trades pins. Did I mention that he is cute? I wil try to get pictures of me and Figgy soon so you all can see. Though working with him for an hour is very tiring. The pictures on the web page are images taken at work during a very silly award ceremony. I taped the whole thing and sold DVDs of it. that is why the others are dressed well and I am just me. I was the Techie. Which did cause a problem when I won an award and had to hand off my new camera. I can't post the other pics since this was a work related event. The DVD took up an inordinate amount of my time these past weeks since it takes an hour for each copy. Disney recently hosted a cheerleader competition and we were reminded why there is a cliche of stupid cheerleaders. I offer up this list of quotes from our department: "So if he's not real, why is he called Figment?", "So, like, if it says zero minute wait, what does that mean?" , take 2 "Zero minutes means there is no wait right?", take 3...4...5...6... I'll stop there with that line of quotes, in response to us telling a group they could enter now "No, the sign says the wait is ten minutes and we are going to wait ten minutes.", we only got two of those, "Hey that's neat. You have five sensory lab and I have five senses. Cool.", "Wait, if the fireworks start at 9:00 and last 12 minutes will the finish before 9:30?". "Can we meet the guy who played Rick Moranis?" Of course not all is fun and games here. Reality must intrude on our Fantasy sometimes. We got a new batch of CPs this January, eight of them to be exact. One got Termed his first night at Vista Way for underage drinking. One every one here is wishing would get Termed as she could fit right in with the cheerleaders above. One is despised by nearly all the females and many of the males in our department as he has tryed to sleep with most of the females and fills all the other cliches of a jock. One has alienated nearly everyone as she is very touchy-feely, emphasis on the touchy. And the others are nothing special, no one I would want to be more than acquainted with. Hopefully, this situation wil improve. There is not a single male in the group who does not recoil, whenever Stan or myself walk into the room. It is a little annoying. Because of the new CPs not being willing to follow instructions, the entire department has been banned from heading into the break room to gather our stuff until after our shift has ended. I am excused from it because of the bus schedule but it is still annoying. The old policy was that you waited until either 10 minutes before shift end or you got your bump-off, which ever was later, before heading back to get your stuff. Some of the CPs were leaving their positions 45 minutes beforehand or without finishing up the position. Finally they are going to mess up our schedules. Our current scheduling procedure is that we get a set schedule every week that we chose out of the ones available. The new procedure is that you chose a time frame and can be worked anywhere within that window. So we will never know what our schedule is now. The union is trying to fight it but too many people are scared of what the company will do to them. The union needs to get at least 65% of the cast members to sign a petition and they can't even get 40% even though no one wants the new scheduling. sorry for the length of complaints. 10:09 am - I'm Back (second time) Hey I'm back. Took me a long time between work and some personal problems but I will be better from now on. This will be long due to the hiatus. As to work, well things are crazy down here at Disney from thanksgiving till New Years by themselves from everyone taking vacation. This year was the worst yet. All four parks closed their gates. Epcot alone had over 78,000 pass through on New Year's Eve. All four parks set attendance records. On top of that, Our department was dangerously understaffed. Journey in Imagination with Figment almost did not open because we did not have the cast members to handle that many people. Fortunately some former College Program came down and worked for a few days. We all were on six days the entire holiday season, with the occasional seventh day thrown in for fun. One week I had over 90 hours. And while our job is not hard it is very draining. At the end of the day you can not bring yourself to do anything but collapse. It took me a few weeks to recover from that. Couple that with the fact that I am once again single, which I will not go into here, and I was not as diligent in making contact as I should have been nor paying any attention to what was going on around me. For example, I just found out last week that all the emails I thought I had sent since Christmas did not go out due to Outlook. Back to the old seperate Hotmail and Yahoo accounts. Okay enough personal stuff, onto the reason that actually got me to post. You often hear it said by the proponents of magic that the reason magic no longer works is that people have lost there belief. While I do not know about the magic, I will say that there does seem to be very few who are willing to have a sense of wonder. There is nearly noone who walks through our gates willing to have fun. Maybe one out of every thousand is willing to be entertained. Most come through and they want rides. They don't care about the story or the beauty of the attraction, they just want to get on, ride the ride, and go onto the next. oh yes and yell at the CMs because it was not fast enough, or it is a kiddie ride, or whatever. If the wanted that, why don't they go to Universal? That is the park for the 'danes. Disney is truly a magical place if you allow it to be, even with all the changes. We who work here do try to maintain the Magical Guest Experience. If you don't want that please do not come here. And, yes, the parks are designed more with kids and parents in mind than teens but even there. Disney is supposed to be fun especially for the kids and yet I see kids whose parents are literally dragging them onto the next ride because they have to get through this one and this one and that one, not because they are fun or the kid wants to go. I would right more but it fortunately I must head off to work now. Sorry for thte length of the rant. As you can tell it is a sore subject for me. Enough, I must go before I continue. I will be updating this more often now. Current Mood: bitchy Current Music: Bond - Strange Paradise
